Living With Our Health
by H.P. Barrett III

A variety of health issues affect all of us at one time or another, but for the chronically ill and disabled (54 million in the U.S.) every aspect of life may pose a unique and daunting challenge.

I've had the pleasure of writing on a broad spectrum of these issues including medicines, therapy, celebrations and temporary set backs.

The government and private sector response to this nations single largest minority through legislation, compliance and enforcement; the Americans With Disability Act (ADA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Rehabilitation Act; Medicare, MiCASSA, the courts and even the police beat have been assignments along the way.

A strong heart is just as important as any pair of legs, and I've had the joy of writing profiles on tremendous individual efforts. Justin Dart, John Lancaster, and Andy Imparato are not household names, but they are individuals who have reshaped the world in positive fashion.

Face Of America and the Spirit of ADA torch relays were two national stories of importance, but no more so than the members of business and local government in a small Texas city who came together to build an amazing 100% wheelchair accessible park.

You can read these stories and others on the on the Health News & Features Page.
